?I'm running out of ways to try to explain how difficult it is," says Mike Nickeas
Utility catcher Mike Nickeas is remembering his time with R.A. Dickey in the New York Mets? franchise when he used to catch behind the plate. Though he will again play with Dickey in the Toronto Blue Jays but he is still appreciating him the way he performed in the New York Mets.
?I'm running out of ways to try to explain how difficult it is, It's really tough," the Mets' then-backup catcher said that night, before offering one more attempt.
"When things are meant to happen, they're going to happen," said former Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran, who hit the would-be double in question.
Dickey recently joined the Toronto Blue Jays after playing some wonderful seasons with the Mets. Last season, he achieved consistent numbers of 2.73 ERA along with 20-6 win loss, 230 strikeouts and 1.05 WHIP. Overall his career ERA of 3.98 along with 61-56 win loss, 739 strikeouts and 1.33 WHIP also makes him a world class player.
As he left the Mets, he wrote a farewell to his fans. ?I never expected to be writing a farewell ?holiday card? to Mets fans, I never expected to be doing anything but celebrating the joy of the season with my wife and kids and looking toward the spring, and the start of my fourth season with an organization that gave me maybe the greatest gift an athlete can get: A chance,? Dickey wrote.
Now he will play for the Blue Jays from next season onwards. Some say his timing was not appropriate when he left the club but when the Mets and Dickey?s agent could not reach a mutual understanding; he was traded to the Blue Jays.
Dickey is highly talented player and knows his game well. He started his game from the Texas Rangers? platform and later went onto play for the Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins and New York Mets.
Though he has many good years but 2012 proved to be the best in his career as he won National League Cy Young award in it along with National League leading Shutout award and awarded NL Strikeout Champion.
